EICR from Willett Electrical Services Ltd

1) EICR Electrical Safety Reports in Loughborough

We recently carried out an electrical inspection for a homeowner whose property had passed its recommended next inspection date. Everything appeared to be working normally, but during testing, we discovered that both RCDs in her consumer unit were failing to disconnect correctly.

These devices provide additional protection against electric shock, and neither was operating as it should. The customer had no idea there was a problem. We issued an unsatisfactory Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), as remedial work was required to address the faults.

It’s a good example of why having your electrics properly inspected and tested matters, even when everything seems to be working fine.

At Willett Electrical Services, we carry out EICRs for homeowners, landlords and businesses throughout Loughborough. I’m Adam Willett, and with 20 years of electrical experience, I understand how important thorough testing is.

We’re an NICEIC Approved Contractor with 51 Google reviews. We aim to respond to enquiries the same day and provide written quotations within three days.

2) Electrical Safety Inspections for Landlords and Homeowners

If you’re a landlord in England, you’re generally required to have your property’s electrical installation inspected and tested at least every five years, or sooner if the previous report recommends it.

We help landlords and letting agents arrange these inspections and obtain the electrical safety reports they need to meet their responsibilities.

We also carry out EICRs for homeowners who want to check the condition of their electrics, particularly where an installation hasn’t been tested for several years.

An EICR assesses the condition of your fixed electrical installation and identifies defects, deterioration or potential safety issues that may need attention.

3) What’s Involved in Our EICR Inspections?

When we carry out an EICR, we complete a visual inspection of the accessible electrical installation alongside a series of electrical tests.

This includes inspecting the consumer unit, checking accessible wiring and accessories for signs of damage or overheating, and testing the circuits and protective devices.

We use a Megger multifunction tester to carry out tests including continuity, insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance and RCD operation, where applicable.

The RCD testing is particularly important. As we discovered during our recent inspection, these devices can fail without any obvious warning to the homeowner.

Once we’ve completed the inspection, we’ll issue your Electrical Installation Condition Report, detailing the test results, any defects identified and whether the installation is satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

Most inspections take approximately three hours, although larger properties or installations with more circuits may take longer.

4) Why Thorough Electrical Testing Matters

One issue within the electrical industry is inspections being rushed or circuits not being tested thoroughly enough.

An EICR requires more than a quick look inside the consumer unit. Poor visual inspections can miss damaged accessories, signs of overheating or deterioration. Incomplete testing can leave faults with wiring or protective devices undetected.

We take the time to carry out the necessary inspections and tests properly, recording our findings accurately.

Our recent inspection involving the two faulty RCDs is a good example. Without carrying out the appropriate tests, those faults could have remained unnoticed, leaving the customer without the intended additional protection against electric shock.

We want our customers to understand the condition of their installation and know exactly what needs attention.

5) How Much Does an EICR Cost in Loughborough?

Our EICR prices generally range from £190 to £300 plus VAT, depending on the size of the property and the number of circuits requiring inspection and testing.

This includes the electrical testing, visual inspection and completed report.

We provide a fixed-price written quotation before carrying out any work, so you know exactly what you’re paying.

If we discover faults requiring remedial work, we’ll explain what we’ve found and provide a separate quotation for any repairs.

6) Why Choose Willett Electrical Services?

We’ve worked hard to make our customer service as good as the electrical work we carry out.

We understand how frustrating it can be when contractors don’t return calls, appointments aren’t confirmed or paperwork takes longer than expected. This is particularly important for landlords who need inspections completed around tenants and compliance deadlines.

We aim to respond to enquiries the same day, provide quotations within three days and keep customers informed throughout the process.

With 20 years of electrical experience, NICEIC Approved Contractor status and 51 Google reviews, we take pride in providing thorough inspections alongside good communication.
